HOCKEY CANADA'S WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Toronto, ON - Hockey Canada is ecstatic to announce that, in conjunction with 2017 World Junior Championships, we will be offering Development Programs to players of all ages and coaches of all levels. These development programs will take place at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Toronto, ON; the Official practice venue for the 2017 WJC.

The Hockey Canada World Junior Championship Development Programs are open to male and female players and coaches of a variety of ages and skill levels. Please see below for an overview of each program and the eligibility requirements. PLAYER PROGRAMS

 

Skill Development Camps

Hockey Canada Skills Development Camps are a one-day event open to boys and girls playing in the Atom & Peewee divisions (2004 - 2007 birthdays). The primary objective of the camp is to provide a vehicle for players and coaches to enhance development of fundamental skills required to play the game of hockey in a safe and fun environment.This program is geared towards players of all skill levels.All registered participants will receive one complimentary ticket to a World Junior Championship Game.

Initiation Program Festival

Hockey Canada's Initiation Program makes children's first contact with hockey a safe and positive experience. It's a structured, learn-to-play hockey program designed to introduce beginners to the game's basic skills. It enables participants to become contributing members of a team effort, develop self-confidence, and experience a sense of personal achievement. These goals are achieved in an atmosphere of fun and fair play. All registered Teams/Individuals will receive one complimentary ticket to a World Junior Championship Game.

Atom Cross Ice Jamboree

The Atom Cross Ice Jamboree sees teams play the width of the ice instead of the length, allowing for more chances to pass, shoot and stick-handle and less time spent chasing the puck up and down the entire rink. The final goal is to provide more time playing – and less time waiting for the next shift and statistics have shown Cross Ice Jamborees will improve the players skill and increase their enjoyment of the game. All registered Teams will receive one complimentary ticket to a World Junior Championship Game.

Hockey Canada High Performance Skills Development Session

The Hockey Canada Skills Development Sessions are designed for male and female A, AA & AAA hockey players. This high performance session will enhance individual tactics and skills. Open to Novice, Atom, Peewee & Bantam/Midget age groups. All registered participants will receive one complimentary ticket to a World Junior Championship Game.

Goaltender Development Sessions

Hockey Canada's Goaltender Skill Development Session is a one-hour program open to boys and girls playing in the Atom, Peewee, & Bantam/Midget divisions (1999 - 2006 birthdays). The primary objective of the session is to provide a vehicle for goaltenders and coaches to enhance development of fundamental goaltending specific skills required to play the game of hockey. All registered participants will receive one complimentary ticket to a World Junior Championship Game.

Hockey Canada Skills Combine - National Skills Standards and Testing

The Hockey Canada Skills Combine is recommended for A, AA & AAA players to test their on-ice capabilities while promoting skill development in a fun and interactive program. This program is open to boys and girls in the Atom, Peewee, and Bantam divisions (2002-2007 birthdays). This testing model is the same testing that our World Junior players have gone through at the Under-17 level. Players will be challenged in a fun and competitive atmosphere  which analyzes their skills with concrete data. All registered participants will receive one complimentary ticket to a World Junior Championship Game.

COACHING PROGRAMS

Coaching Specialty Clinic - Small Area Games

Every practice should contain some form of game-situation and competitive drills, but not necessarily through traditional scrimmage activities. Small area games allow more players to be active, while handling the puck in a smaller area and making quicker decisions. Coaches can work on technical skills, individual tactics and team tactics in a manner that is seen as fun by the players. Coaches that attend the Small Area Games Specialty Clinic are eligible for 3 Professional Development Points towards their Certification Maintenance. In addition, each Coach that registers receives one (1) ticket to the World Junior Championships Game between USA vs. Russia on Thursday, December 29th, 2016. Additional tickets are available to purchase following registration.

Coaching Specialty Clinic - Developing Defenceman

The Developing Defencemen Level 1 Clinic is part of the Instructional Coaching Stream of the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP). It is a competency-based program designed for coaches that are teaching defencemen skills to players of all ages in a progressive manner. Coaches that attend the Developing Defenceman Specialty Clinic are eligible for 5 Professional Development Points towards their Certification Maintenance. In addition, each Coach that registers receives one (1) ticket to the World Junior Championships Game between USA vs. Russia on Thursday, December 29th, 2016. Additional tickets are available to purchase following registration.

Coaches Practice Planning Session

The practice is the basic preparation unit for the athlete and links to the overall Seasonal Plan. It is the fundamental building block of coaching. Skills are learned, conditioning is achieved, and confidence is built. The clinic will include in class sessions as well as a World Junior Practice Observation session. Coaches that attend the Practice Planning Session are eligible for 3 Professional Development Points towards their Certification Maintenance. In addition, each Coach that registers receives one (1) ticket to the World Junior Championships Game between Russia vs. Slovakia on Saturday, December 31st, 2016. Additional tickets are available to purchase following registration.

Coaches Instructional Stream - Goaltending 1

Goaltending is a specialized position that minor hockey coaches often find challenging to lead and teach. Learn the foundation of technical skills including: skating, stance, moving, positioning, save selection and puck control. Along with the technical aspect of goaltending, coaches will be introduced to practice utilization, communication and specific drills related to goaltending. Coaches that attend the Practice Planning Session are eligible for 5 Professional Development Points towards their Certification Maintenance. In addition, each Coach that registers receives one (1) ticket to the World Junior Championships Game between Russia vs. Slovakia on Saturday, December 31st, 2016. Additional tickets are available to purchase following registration.
