North London Novice A Wins International Silver Stick - 1/28/2010
London, ON - The North London Nationals Novice A hockey team won the prestigious Mite/Novice A International Silver Stick in St. Clair Shores, Michigan in thrilling fashion on the weekend!
Mason Howard scored the winning goal, his second of the game, with 3.2 seconds remaining in the 3rd period for a 3-2 victory in the Championship Game over the Montgomery Blue Devils from Maryland. Luke Drewitt also scored for the Nationals and Spencer Mace provided a stellar performance in goal for the win.
In the semi-final game on Sunday morning the Nationals trailed the Winchester Vipers from New York 4-0 going into the third period but rallied to tie the game at 4 and send it to overtime. Mason Howard was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down on a breakaway 51 seconds into overtime and scored his 4th goal of the game to send the Nats to the Finals.
The players include Devan VanSlyke, Spencer Mace, Sam Willits, Jacob Rochford, Carter Kiriakakos, Zachary Logan, William Evans, Matthew Couto, Mason Howard, Luke Drewitt, Mason Millman, Carter Dunlop, Kurtis Oldman, Jace McKenzie Caspi, Ethan Roche and Sammy Bruckler. The Head Coach is Jeff Howard and he is assisted by Greg Millman and Chris Rochford.
The Nationals, who won the Regional Silver Stick in Parkhill, Ontario, went a perfect 6-0 in the tournament scoring 38 goals and allowing 17. Mason Howard was named Tournament MVP.
