With extensive playing experience, including stints in the OHL, CIS, ECHL, WCHL and OHA, Blain is no stranger to the ice.  It is his coaching skills however, that have earned him the recognition of being named the 2021 ALLIANCE Hockey Coach of the Year.  Blain has coached in the ALLIANCE for the past six seasons, beginning with the Stratford Warriors and for the last four seasons with the Huron Perth Lakers.

“Blain has an unparalleled level of commitment to his teams. He treats the players with respect and decency and sets the standard for both on ice and off ice behaviour. His organizational skills are second to none with all practices typically emailed the day before,” noted a team parent.

Despite the challenges of the past year, Blain committed to 3 practices a week, allowing players to further develop both hockey skills and inter-personal skills.

“He communicates so well with the kids and has earned their respect without ever raising his voice. I have no doubt that years from now, kids will be reflecting on the awesome coach they had when they were young - thanks to the leadership and determination he has shown the boys,” stated another team parent.

Blain is known to continually inspire his players both on and off the ice.  He encourages all players to exhibit respectful behaviour and focuses on both individual skills and teamwork.  His preparation and planning, whether for practices, games or tournaments has not gone unnoticed throughout his coaching tenure.

“Blain always goes above and beyond...for example when we go to tournaments, he makes arrangements for the team to have an extra experience, such as taking in an OHL game or arranging a tour of an NHL dressing room,” said the Team Manager.

Congratulations Coach Blain on this well-deserved recognition!
