Panthers Golden at Ontario Winter Games
Congratulations to the Sun County Panthers U14AAA team who captured the gold medal at the 2023 Ontario Winter Games hosted in Renfrew, Ont.!

The Panthers completed the event undefeated and captured the Championship win on February 5th!


The Panthers were placed in Pool A where they played three games finishing with a 3-0 record, 14GF and 4GA.

Pool A:
Game 1: Sun County Panthers 4 @ Niagara North Stars 0
Game 2: Team HNO 2 @ Sun County Panthers 5 
Game 3: Sun County Panthers 5 @ Ottawa Myers Automotive 2

The team then moved on to the semi-finals where they faced the second place finishers from Pool B, the Barrie Colts. 

Semi-Finals:
Game 4: Barrie Colts 2 @ Sun County Panthers 2

The Panthers advanced to the championship finals where they faced off against the undefeated Ottawa Valley Titans.

Final:
Game 5: Ottawa Valley Titans 1 @ Sun County Panthers 4 GOLD MEDAL CHAMPIONS!

Originally scheduled for early 2022, the games were postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, with the Games being held during the first two weekends of February 2023 – Feb. 2-5 and Feb. 9-12.

The ALLIANCE Hockey team representative selection was based upon the best team record as of a specific number of games played in the ALLIANCE Hockey regular season.

Men's hockey was featured during the first week of the Games and played out of the Ma-te-way Park Activity Centre in Renfrew.

About the Ontario Winter Games
As Ontario’s largest multi-sport events, the Games are a showcase of amateur sport in Ontario and provide top young athletes with development and competitive opportunities to prepare them for national and international competition. The Ontario Winter Games were first delivered in 1970 by the City of Etobicoke. Since then, they have been held in even numbered years, and attract as many as 3,000 participants competing in over 20 sports.

Games Ontario will be hosting the 2023 Ontario Winter Games beginning Thursday, February 2 to Sunday, February 5, 2023, and February 9 to Sunday, February 11, 2023. The Games will take place at multiple locations across Renfrew County. A full list of venues will be posted on the Games website.

The Ontario government is providing $1.4 million to support the games.

The games will draw more than 3,000 young athletes, coaches and officials from across Ontario to compete in 22 individual sports.
