The U18 AAA Canucks captured the 2025 Central Region Championship with a spectacular win in overtime, defeating the Vaughan Kings by a score of 3-2 on Sunday.
The Central Region U18 AAA Championship included teams from two of the three Hockey Canada Branches within the Province of Ontario. Participating Branches were Hockey Eastern (HEO) and the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF).
The Central Region U18 AAA Champions now advance to the Men’s U18 National Club Championship, known as the Telus Cup.
The 2025 TELUS Cup will be hosted at the Chilliwack Coliseum in Chilliwack, British Columbia from April 21 to 27, 2025. Participating teams come from the following regions: Atlantic, Central, Pacific, Quebec, West and the Host Team, the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. This will be the first National appearance for the Canucks.

2025 Central Region Championships - Recap
Fifty-two teams call the Central Region home, but only six were in the hunt for the region’s berth at the 2025 TELUS Cup in Chilliwack, British Columbia – the Elgin Middlesex Canucks, Markham Waxers, Ottawa Automotive, Sudbury Wolves, Upper Canada Cyclones and Vaughan Kings.
The Canucks finished the round robin with a 3 and 2 record to advance to the semi-finals against the Host Upper Canada Cyclones. A 3-0 win guaranteed the Canuck squad a place in the Championship match up against the undefeated Vaughan Kings. The Championship game saw the Kings take an early 2-0 lead in the first period. The Canucks answered back in the second period with two goals of their own. The third period ended with the teams tied 2-2 heading into overtime where Lucas Van Steensel solidified the win for the Canucks with a goal at the 13:25 minute mark.
