Remembering Glen Childerley
It is with extreme sadness that we share the passing of a dear friend and supporter of ALLIANCE Hockey, Glen Childerley.

Glen contributed to ALLIANCE Hockey in so many ways including coaching, managing, leading courses, and assisting with many maltreatment cases just to name a few.

We will remember him as a true friend and someone who provided joy and perspective to so many.

Glen will be watching over the love of his life, best friend, and wife of 37 years, Colleen (McCafferty), his three sons, Scott (Emma), Brendan (Lauren), and Mark, all of whom he was so extremely proud and loved immensely, his adored grandson, Brock, and his step-granddaughter, Lilah. Glen is also survived by his loving mother, Sandra, and his Aunt Janet, Uncle John, and Cousin, Sean Astins, his brothers/sisters-in-law, Dan (Sue) McCafferty, Colleen McCafferty, Shannon (Shaun) Donnelly, and Kerry (Todd) Shoalts as well as his many nieces, nephews and Childerley cousins. Glen is predeceased by his father, Terence (Terry), his brother, Craig, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vince and Jackie McCafferty, and brother-in-law, Brian McCafferty.

Glen was born in Guelph Ontario, and at the early age of 10, emphatically set his goal on becoming a police officer. He achieved his dream in 1986 when he started his career as a Constable with the O.P.P in South Porcupine. Glen’s police career has taken him from South Porcupine to the Northeast Patrol, and to numerous detachments across Perth County, before retiring in 2016. Over his 31 years of service with the Ontario Provincial Police, Glen has positively impacted the lives of countless individuals and has always been very proud of the influence he has had on the youth of the communities he has policed. Following retirement, he continued to work, teaching at Fanshawe College and cutting grass at River Valley Golf Course, where he loved watching the sun rise in the early morning hours.

Glen’s greatest joy was his family. Together with Colleen, Glen always listed his greatest accomplishment as his 3 boys, whom he was extremely proud of. He loved when all the boys were home, enjoying time together in the backyard or at a big family dinner.

Once his boys became involved in sports, he became an avid hockey, baseball, and soccer dad. He found great joy in spending time with his family at the hockey rink, whether it was as a spectator or a coach. Once his kids were done with hockey, his desire to see other kids achieve their hockey aspirations led him to take up a management role as GM, first with the St Mary’s Lincoln’s and later with the Stratford Cullitons. Most recently, he could be found acting as assistant (C2) to Mark with the Erie Otters of the OHL.

Glen could light up any room with his sense of humour, warm personality, and infectious smile. He knew EVERYONE. He always made time for conversation and always had a joke or quick one-liner in his back pocket. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, proud dad, loving son, special nephew, the best Peepaw ever, and friend to all.

Words cannot describe how much Glen will be missed, stolen from us way too soon but has left a lasting impact on all those with whom he crossed paths.

Please join us for a celebration of Glen’s life on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. at Grayson Mills, 114 Erie Street, Stratford, Ontario.
