Congratulations to the Hamilton Huskies' Mike Spadafora recipient of the 2023 ALLIANCE Hockey Award of Merit!
Mike Spadafora's 20-year involvement in hockey has included numerous roles and positions. Mike began with the Hamilton Huskies Hockey Club, where he served
as a AAA coach for 10+ seasons; over the years, Mike joined the Huskies Executive team under the mentorship of Yosh Kitamura, which led him to become
the General Manager of the hockey club, a title he held since 2013. The Hamilton Huskies celebrated their 50th anniversary this past season with a
900-person Huskies Hall of Fame & organizational banquet in April;
celebrating this milestone was made possible because of people like Mike supporting minor hockey.
While serving as GM of the Huskies, Mike also began his Jr Hockey
involvement. He joined the Brantford Golden Eagles Jr. B’s as
the Assistant GM & Assistant Coach (2009-2011) and became the Co-Owner and
GM - Brantford 99ers (2013-2015). Mike later joined the Dundas Blues Jr.
C Hockey Club from 2018-2020 as General Manager. In December 2022, Spadafora was named President of his hometown Hamilton Kilty B’s who captured the 2023 Golden Horseshoe Conference Championship. Mike has recently been named a GOJHL Director for the 2023-24 season.
Mike was also an instrumental component in providing leadership and vision within the City of Hamilton as the Hamilton Huskies and the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs merged to form the Hamilton Steel AAA Hockey Club. As President of the Steel, Spadafora will guide the club in its inaugural 2023-24 season.
Off the ice, Mike is a newly elected City of Hamilton Ward 14
Councillor, holding the position since September 2022. He looks forward to serving his constituents
during his four-year term and sits on the various City of Hamilton committees
to help improve his community.
Mike is a dedicated family man raising three young
children along with his wife, Joanna. His family's support allows Mike to
continue his leadership roles across the city; his family gives him incredible
strength to make a difference daily.
"Mike's passion for the game, vision
and leadership abilities are second to none, and he continues to be a
driving force in the hockey community," said Huskies Director of Operations and Player Development Rich Vrataric.
Thank you,
Mike, for your hard work and commitment to both minor hockey and your community!
