Level 1 Clinics (New Official) - REGISTRATION FOR THE 2025-2026 SEASON!
Individuals 14 years of age by December 31st of the current year or older interested in getting started in the Officiating Program should contact their local Referee Association for information on becoming a referee in their centre. Level 1 clinics specifically designed for new officials are scheduled by ALLIANCE Hockey with assistance from the local association during the Fall on an annual basis. Once you have registered with your local Referee Association, they will send you all Level 1 Clinic Registration information.

Steps to complete certification:
1) Register with your Local Referee Association
- If you are not sure which association is the right one for you, please contact the Coordinator, Officiating, Chad Houben.
2) Comply with the OHF Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Policy (18+)
3) Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) - Intro to Officiating (Online Course)
4) ALLIANCE Hockey Officiating Program (AHOP) - In-Class Training
5) HCOP Exam (Open Book)
Once certified, an official must continue to update and be completely familiar with new rule interpretations and officiating procedures.

In the following seasons, all officials are required to complete a full HCOP Recertification Clinic and HCOP Exam for their current level to be eligible to continue officiating.
