Stratford, ON – This past Saturday, November 14, 2015 the
Minor Bantam AAA Waterloo Wolves faced off against the Minor Bantam AAA Kitchener
Jr. Rangers in the 2015 Toyota Hockey Challenge. This was the final game following a series of round robin games which also featured the Minor Bantam AAA Cambridge Hawks. On the line for the Champion was an all-expenses paid once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan courtesy of Toyota Motor Manufacturing.
The boisterous crowd of more than 1300 were entertained with 3 exciting periods of great hockey at The Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. The game was fast-paced and saw back and forth chances from both teams. Needless to say, the goal-tending was spectacular and featured Adam Whetren in nets for the Jr. Rangers and Matt Onuska in nets for the Wolves. It was Waterloo who opened the scoring at 11:32 of the second period on a nice 2-on-1 goal from Chase Broda, with assists from Tyler Healey and Eric Martin. From there, the Wolves never looked back as they locked down the Championship with an insurance goal from Healy with 6:55 left in the 3rd period. With the 2-0 win, the Waterloo Wolves Minor Bantam AAA team punched their ticket to Hokkaido, Japan in March of 2016 courtesy of Toyota Motor Manufacturing! Overall, both teams represented their Associations well and the game was truly one for the record books. Congratulations goes out to the Wolves and the Jr. Rangers on a fantastic Toyota Challenge!
The excitement wasn't just on the ice as great draw prizes and t-shirt tosses were featured throughout the game. Draw Prizes included:
- Four tickets to the Toronto Maple Leafs game vs Tampa Bay Lighting
- Free base registration from WMHA, KMHA, and CMHA
