Entry Level Clinics - OPEN FOR THE 2024-2025 SEASON

Individuals 14 years of age by December 31st of the current year or older interested in getting started in the Officiating Program should contact their local Referee Association for information on becoming a referee in their centre.  Clinics specifically designed for the Entry Level Official are scheduled by ALLIANCE Hockey with assistance by the local association in the Fall on an annual basis.  Once you have registered with your local Referee Association, they will send you all Entry Level Clinic information and the link to the Hockey Canada University Online Officiating Course that is required to be completed prior to attending the Zoom session.

All officials attending an Entry Level Clinic must complete the following to certify.


1. Respect in Sport for Officials Course

2. Hockey Canada HU-Officiating Course

3. In-Class/Virtual Course

4. HCOP Exam (Open Book) – Must obtain a score of 60%

Once certified, it is essential that an official continue to update and be completely familiar with new rule interpretations and officiating procedures.

To maintain one's present level of certification, an individual must attend a full Hockey Canada officiating program Recertification Clinic and write a national examination every year with appropriate passing mark.

All officials 18 years of age or older are required to comply with the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Screening Policy to be eligible to skate. For more information and how to submit your check, please go to the OHF Vulnerable Sector Check Page
