Sarnia White Captures the 2016 Dodge Caravan For Kids Hockey Title
Submitted By webmaster on Tuesday, February 16, 2016
Stratford, ON - Family Day 2016 will be a special memory for 16 teams from across the OMHA and ALLIANCE Hockey!  On Monday, February 15th the annual Dodge Caravan for Kids Family Day tournament was hosted in Brantford and included a ton of on and off ice FUN!

The Dodge Caravan for Kids sponsored Novice HL teams took part in a one-day tournament that included all 16 teams playing 3 round robin games, participating in an exciting on-ice skills challenge, a special lunch and a variety of gifts from Dodge Canada. Following the round robin games, the top team from each of the 4 divisions played in a semi-final match up to determine the two teams to play in the event final.

The first semi-final match up featured the OMHA Grimsby Sharks vs the OMHA Guelph Kings.  The game was exciting and in the end, the Grimsby Sharks came out on top with a final score of 10-3.
The second semi-final match up featured the ALLIANCE Hockey St. Julia Eagles (St. Catharines CYO) team vs the ALLIANCE Hockey Sarnia White team.  The game was a back and forth contest of skill and goals which ended up in a tie after regulation play.  Heading into OT, both teams played a great game with the Sarnia White team eventually scoring 2:25 into the Overtime period to take them into the Final game of the day.

The 2016 Dodge Caravan for Kids final game did not disappoint as it was an exciting finish to a great day.  The Sarnia White team opened the scoring at the 4-minute mark but the Grimsby Sharks tied the game up quickly with a goal less than a minute later. Grimsby followed up two more goals to take the lead in the first period. Sarnia White answered back with two goals of their own to head into the second period with the score tied 3-3.
The second period was just as exciting as the first with a loud and proud crowd!  Both teams had a large number of supporters and the feeling in the building was electric!  After a few more goals from each side, Sarnia went on to take a 6-5 lead.  The teams were evenly matched and played a fantastic last period of hockey with the Sarnia White team eventually capturing the 2016 Dodge Caravan for Kids trophy with a final score of 7-5.  Congratulations to both teams on a well-played Championship!

A huge thanks goes out to Dodge Canada and their representatives who supported the event yesterday.  Thanks also to the volunteers and to the teams for a day of great FUN!
