Team ALLIANCE Finishes Pool Play in Top Spot at the 2016 OHL Gold Cup
Kitchener, ON - Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Team ALLIANCE defeated Team GTHL Red in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Team GTHL Red's shootout goal was scored by Declan Chisholm. Team ALLIANCE's other shootout goal was scored by Eric Guest.

Team ALLIANCE was led by Joel Mazzilli, who racked up one goal. Mazzilli scored 16:08 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Team ALLIANCE. Mitchell Hoelscher assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Team GTHL Red was led by Jack McBain, who finished with two goals and one assist. McBain scored the first of his two goals at 14:29 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Chisholm picked up the assist. McBain's next tally made the score 5-5 with 3:00 left in the third period. Team GTHL Red had gotten the advantage when Team ALLIANCE's Hoelscher was sent off for slashing. Liam Foudy assisted on the tally.

Team GTHL Red was unable to stop Team ALLIANCE from sending pucks towards the net, and Team ALLIANCE eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Team ALLIANCE's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Team ALLIANCE averages 2.0 goals allowed per game. Team ALLIANCE found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Team ALLIANCE additionally got points from Hoelscher, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Team ALLIANCE includedHolden WaleLuke Bignell, and Owen Gilhula, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Team ALLIANCE were Owen LalondeTristan De JongBrady MacDonaldKyle Fisher, and Brett Fisher, who each chipped in one.

Team GTHL Red forced Team ALLIANCE goalie Nathan Torchia to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Team GTHL Red was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Team GTHL Red also got points from Matthew Falls, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Team GTHL Red also had goals scored by Allan McShane and Maxim Grondin, who each put in one. In addition, Team GTHL Red received assists from Pierre Luc Cote-Forget, who had one and Giovanni Vallati, who had three.

Nathan Torchia made 47 saves for Team ALLIANCE on 52 shots. Team ALLIANCE registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Team GTHL Red's Jack Watson stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced.

Team ALLIANCE will play Team HEO today aat 5:15pm in the OHL Gold Cup semi-final.
