Jr. Spitfires Win ALLIANCE Hockey Midget AAA Crown & Punch Ticket to Central Region Telus Cup
Stratford, ON - The Windsor Jr. Spitfires are golden! Following their 3-2 victory
over the Brantford 99ers in game 6 (in the best 4 of 7 series), the Jr. Spitfires clinched the 2017 ALLIANCE Hockey Midget AAA title and
also secured their place in the Telus Cup Midget AAA Central Regional
Championships which run March 27-April 2 in Sudbury, ON.
The Jr. Spitfires swept through the ALLIANCE Hockey Midget AAA Playdown quarter-finals and semi-finals without a single loss to finish 6-0 and outscored their opponents by a total of 33GF - 8GA.
The Final series match up vs the Brantford 99ers proved to be the toughest test to date for the Jr. Spits with 2 of the games eventually being decided in overtime. Overall, the series displayed the talented skill of both teams and provided some great excitement for the fans.

Since 1974, the best minor hockey teams in the country have gathered to compete for Canada's National Midget Championship: the TELUS Cup. The TELUS Cup is Canadian minor hockey’s only national championship. Alumni include names like Sidney Crosby, Patrick Roy, Daniel Brière, Wendel Clark, and Steve Yzerman.
The Central Region Midget AAA Championship, part of the Road to the TELUS Cup, runs from March 27-April 2, 2017 in Sudbury, ON. Champions from the OHF’s four minor Member Partners (Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario (ALLIANCE), Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA), and Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA)), HEO, and host team, make up the field for the six-team event. The HNO participates in the West Region at the midget AAA level.
The winner of the Central Region Championship will move on to compete with the winners of Atlantic Region, West Region, Pacific Region and Quebec Region championships in the national TELUS Cup Championships held in Prince George, BC April 17-23, 2017.
