With over 37 years of officiating experience, Michael Carnrite has officiated his fair share of hockey games in Hamilton and the surrounding areas. Carnrite is a Level 3 on-ice Official and has officiated all levels of hockey, including various events and Championships throughout his tenure.
Off the ice, Carnrite is a Referee Supervisor and mentor for numerous officials in the East Zone. He spends countless hours at local arenas evaluating new officials, offering both praise and positive advice to ensure that Officials are equipped to handle all on-ice situations.
Carnrite is known for having the respect of fellow officials, coaches and players. It isn’t uncommon for him to take the time to talk with players, congratulating them on a well-played game and offering up a glimpse of the game sheet to point out their specific achievements.
“Mike was one of the first officials to come to Chedoke when CMHA was founded in 1994,” said, SR. Select Director, Dwayne Sterling. “The respect he receives for his hard work is awesome to see. He and I have a special deal when it comes my time to leave this amazing game…he has promised to officiate my final game and with one-minute left in the third period, he is going to happily “toss me out of the game” so that I can say my official goodbyes to everyone on the other side of the ice. I wouldn’t want my final game on the ice to be officiated by anyone else!”
Special relationships, like the ones Carnrite has developed amongst the officiating group and the one with Sterling have been important factors that have contributed to Mike's achievements.
Congratulations Mike and we wish you continued success!
