Just like old times...
On Sunday, June 26th the
Elgin Middlesex Canucks officially unveiled their new name and logo along with the help of Association grad and current Vancouver Canucks Captain,
Bo Horvat.
Horvat was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and to reveal a version of the new Canucks Jersey.
EMC Rebrand
Following a request from the Municipality and the OHRC in 2021 to change the 'Chiefs' name, the EMC Board initiated a contest with their membership looking for a new name. "We wanted something authentic and unique to our area and wanted our membership to drive our decision. As far as our minor hockey association's history, we were hoping to keep the 'EMC' moniker, and our association colours of orange, black and white, " noted, EMC President Karen daSilva.
"When we started looking at the entries, we saw some great ideas! We loved the Philadelphia Flyers jersey style and the Canucks name and logo, that a few members submitted. We made a few modifications to make the logo more our own, we think it looks clean and slick. The new name and logo also happen to pay tribute to two of Elgin's favourite and most famous alumni, Bo Horvat and Travis Konecny."
Also attending Sunday's ceremony were ALLIANCE Hockey President Larry Moreland and Region 3 Vice-President, Keith Woods. "It was an exciting moment for us to be included in the EMC rebrand and to stand alongside Bo Horvat who introduced the new Canuck jersey and logo," said President Moreland. "We recognize the decision Elgin Middlesex made to rebrand and fully support it. Congratulations on a great ceremony and thank you to Bo for creating a special memory for the new Canucks!"
