FIRMIN Presented with 2022 Award of Merit
Stratford, ON - ALLIANCE Hockey is pleased to announce that Ross Firmin (Hamilton, ON) has been named the recipient of the 2022 ALLIANCE Hockey Award of Merit.

AWARD OF MERIT – ROSS FIRMIN, HAMILTON MINOR HOCKEY COUNCIL

It is fair to say that Ross Firmin has experienced a little bit of everything throughout the last 46 years of volunteering in minor hockey.

He began his tenure as a coach with the Lawfield Minor Hockey Association which led to his work with the Chedoke Minor Hockey League, soon after it was formed. Ross was quickly named Chedoke President, and along with the Association's Executive Committee, operated one of Hamilton's largest recreational hockey leagues.

Firmin would move on to hold a variety of different titles and roles as the years progressed including Trainer and Manager.  He was also a Tournament Director for the Chedoke Winter Classic Tournament, an event that is still operating some 25 plus years later.

For a number of years, Firmin and some of his colleagues focused on coaching at what was previously known as peewee select.  They specifically choose this age group as they felt it was a level at which they could have a tremendous impact on the players.  "I have never heard anything but amazing compliments about their coaching style and the amount of respect that players and other coaches had for the entire coaching staff," noted an Association Member about those peewee teams for which Firmin was the Assistant Coach.

Ross was also one of the organizing committee members for the then, newly formed Hamilton Minor Hockey Initiation Program.  Firmin contributed to all aspects of the program that provides instruction for all new-to-the-game participants up to the U7 level and is currently the Operations Chair.  Emphasis is placed upon learning to skate, shoot and pass a hockey puck, and the overall enjoyment of the game.

Like the old saying goes 'all good things must come to an end' and so, 2022 marks the end of an era that will see Firmin step away from his full time minor hockey volunteer roles to spend more time with his family, including his wife, children and beloved grandchildren...although, don't expect Firmin to ever be too far away from the rink!

Ross, thank you for your years of service and commitment to minor hockey. You will be missed from the day-to-day operations of Hamilton hockey but the skateprint you have left, will assist hockey players for years to come.

Congratulations on your 2022 ALLIANCE Hockey Award of Merit!
