Paul Schofield has been an active on-ice official for over 13 years. However, Schofield's officiating work is not just limited to the ice as he also contributes to the game through his involvement with scheduling, assigning, mentorship and administration.
As an Executive Member of the London Referees Group, Schofield has regular contact with Officials from London and the surrounding area. He plays an integral role in the recruitment and retention of officials and can often be found at the rink mentoring new officials.
"As a new official, I was assigned to work some games with Paul and he was very helpful in mentoring me to improve as a referee. I was also quite amazed by his commitment and dedication to refereeing. Paul holds the positions of scheduler and assignor for the London Referees Group all while taking on a ton of games," noted a first-year LRG Official.
"Paul's commitment and dedication to the game is admirable. He works full-time, has a family and puts in a lot of hours at the rink and behind the scenes," quoted a fellow officiating colleague.
Along with his LRG duties, Schofield has dedicated many hours towards the training of new officials. He has coordinated new official clinics and assisted with their on-going development. While the last few years have proved to be a challenge - especially for officials, Paul has worked diligently to keep the morale of local officials at a high level and has worked tirelessly to ensure that the local Association on-ice requirements have been met.
Thank you Paul, for your dedication and commitment to officiating and congratulations on your well-deserved 2022 ALLIANCE Hockey Referee of the Year award!
