Congratulations to Brantford Minor Hockey Association's Rob Symons recipient of the 2023 ALLIANCE Hockey Volunteer of the Year Award!
Symons hockey resume is lengthy and he is always willing to lend a hand.
Symons has championed The First Shift program in Brantford for the past 5 years and is set to coordinate the program again in the upcoming 2023-24 season. Given his years of experience with The First Shift, Symons took on the challenge of creating "The Second Shift" which is a transitional program for those players advancing from the First Shift Program. The Second Shift provides players with the opportunity to keep working on their skills with the goal of preparing them to participate in league play.
With over 15 years of bench experience, Rob has worked with almost every age group and has held the titles of head coach, assistant coach, trainer and manager. This past season, BMHA was faced with a coaching vacancy at the U11 House League level and once again, Rob stepped up to take on the role of a non-parent coach.
It wasn't uncommon to see Rob at the rink every Saturday running the U11 practice in the morning only to return again in the afternoon pulling his wagon full of equipment for the First and Second Shift programs.
Symons has served as a BMHA Board Member for the past 6 years fulfilling a variety of different roles including his current position of Director, Social Media and Communications.
"As a BMHA Board Member, Rob brings valuable content to Board discussions and is always a voice of reason. Rob consistently steps up and you can always find him helping out at events," noted BMHA General Manager Kevin Murray.
Rob has provided so many development opportunities to the kids in the Brantford area and has provided consistent leadership for the member minor hockey associations within ALLIANCE Hockey. He is a role model for players, fellow coaches and volunteers alike and is so deserving of this recognition.
Thank you Rob, for your service and commitment to minor hockey and congratulations of being named the 2023 ALLIANCE Hockey Volunteer of the Year!
