Paul Doughty Recognized as 2025 Volunteer of the Year
ALLIANCE Hockey is proud to recognize Paul Doughty as the recipient of the 2025 ALLIANCE Hockey Volunteer of the Year Award!

The ALLIANCE Hockey Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes outstanding contributions, involvement and service to ALLIANCE Hockey. ALLIANCE Hockey Volunteer of the Year Award recipients have displayed commitment to the ideals of ALLIANCE Hockey, have worked tirelessly for the improvement of the game at their local Association level and have made a notable impact on both the game and the players involved.

Paul has been a longstanding Convenor and dedicated Board Member with the London Junior Knights (LJK) for over a decade. Many people may recognize his name through his son, Drew, who recently represented Canada at the Four Nations Cup and has proudly earned both Olympic gold medals and Stanley Cups.

Paul's steadying influence and calm leadership have been a guiding force within the LJK community, including through his thoughtful insights shared with parents—often drawing from his own family’s experience in the program.

One particularly impactful story Paul often shares with families is how Drew began his hockey journey as a forward. Drew originally played forward, but when a coach suggested moving him to defense, Paul and his wife Connie backed the decision, encouraging Drew in his new position. Although scoring goals might have been more fun at the time, with their support the transition clearly paid off.

Paul’s dedication to the LJK extends well beyond his Board duties. He has played a vital role in organizing and growing the Drew Doughty U10/U11 AAA Tournament, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. As the tournament’s principal fundraiser, Paul has helped raise over $700,000—a remarkable sum that directly supports both the LJK program and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Southwestern Ontario, benefiting families from across the ALLIANCE Hockey community.

This tournament is organized by a close-knit committee of Doughty family and friends - many of whom have no children in the program but continue to volunteer year after year because of a shared commitment to minor hockey. Paul’s tireless work is central to its ongoing success. Whether it’s coordinating with major sponsors, overseeing tournament logistics, or personally handing out Player of the Game pucks signed by Drew, Paul is always the first at the rink and the last to leave.

His commitment to the RMHC was further recognized last year when a room at the London Ronald McDonald House was named in honor of the LJK and the Doughty family, thanks largely to Paul and Connie’s fundraising leadership. The Tournament Committee also visits the house annually to prepare a meal for the families staying there—another testament to their hands-on approach to community support.

In addition to his work with LJK and RMHC, Paul also scouts for the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads, where he actively promotes minor players to higher levels of hockey, further demonstrating his commitment to growing the game and supporting young athletes.

Paul, along with Connie are long-standing volunteers who exemplify community spirit, leadership, and generosity. Their contributions have had a lasting impact on the LJK organization and the surrounding communities and we can't wait to celebrate their donation goal of one million dollars in the near future!

Congratulations Paul on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your continued service to both minor hockey and your community!
