ALLIANCE Hockey is proud to recognize
Robin Cumming as the 2025 recipient of the
ALLIANCE Hockey Trainer of the Year Award.
Established in 2001, the Trainer of the Year Award recognizes outstanding contributions, involvement and service to ALLIANCE Hockey in the area of training.
ALLIANCE Hockey Trainer of the Year Award recipients have displayed commitment to the ideals of ALLIANCE Hockey, have worked tirelessly for the improvement of the game at their local Association level and have made a notable impact on both the game and the players involved.
"Robin is an extraordinary individual who has dedicated countless hours to the well-being of young hockey players. His unwavering commitment to player safety, injury prevention, and rehabilitation makes him not only an exceptional Trainer but also a cherished mentor and role model," noted Team Manager Katie Misener.
Robin has been an integral part of the Waterloo Minor Hockey Association since 2007, beginning his journey as a Trainer with the Minor Atom MD team (now U10). Since then, he has continuously served as a Trainer and/or Assistant Coach or Manager without taking a single year off. His dedication is unparalleled, often supporting multiple teams simultaneously. His long-standing commitment to minor hockey demonstrates his passion for the sport and his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes.
Robin goes far beyond the typical responsibilities of a hockey Trainer. He is an insightful and professional athletic therapist who exemplifies self-care, healthy living, and compassion. His expertise ensures that players not only recover from injuries but also learn essential techniques to prevent future injury. At his core, Robin is a tireless advocate for youth athletes, empowering them to understand, respect, and care for their bodies.
One of Robin’s greatest strengths is his ability to connect with players and their families. His approachable demeanor makes him a trusted figure in the dressing room and on the bench. He carefully evaluates and supports players in moments of injury, ensuring they do not rush back onto the ice before they are truly ready. While young athletes may be eager to return to play, Robin’s thorough assessments and insistence on proper healing prevent long-term repercussions. Parents greatly appreciate his diligence and professionalism, knowing that their children’s health and safety are in the best hands possible.
Beyond his technical skills, Robin is the team’s biggest fan and an inspirational leader. His encouragement and positivity boost team morale, and his dedication sets an example for players, coaches, and parents alike. His volunteerism, spanning over a decade and a half, has left a lasting impact on Waterloo Minor Hockey and the many athletes he has mentored.
Robin Cumming embodies the very best of what a hockey Trainer should be. His dedication, expertise, and genuine care for his players make him the ideal recipient of the ALLIANCE Hockey Trainer of the Year Award.
Congratulations Robin and thank you for your unwavering dedication, many years of service, and for always placing the players first. Your commitment has made a lasting impact, and we are truly grateful.
